It's been a pretty wild ride. But one thing has always remained the same. I love doing this, I love creating things, and I love figuring out solutions to really unique problems. I also still can't believe we get paid to do this this.
Let them happen, embrace the weird ones. Try to grow them from anywhere. Any shape, any size, any place, sometimes the best ones come to life in the most overlooked environments. Listen to the room, your kids, and just in general be curious about, well everything.
I get it, but be aware of how you're being perceived, We are all reading way more than just your email we are looking at everything to see if you are present and engaged. If you aren't then I'm doing something wrong, or I am going to think I am.
Life is too short. This is business, but joy is an amazing thing. It fuels us, gets us through the late nights and round 57. We spend a ton of time together, it does not have to suck.
The good the bad, the awkward, the painful. This is life, and all those little moments make it. I recently lost a good friend and co-worker, and I now realize how much we really did share, we spent more time together than some families do.
Yeah this is fun, but it is not always easy. Be prepared to sweat — the details, the strategy, the target, the clients likes and dislikes, the different ways an idea could come to life. Jump all the way in. You can take a shower when it's over.
An idea can happen in an instant, but making it into a coherent incredible idea that connects takes time and refinement. A former colleague of mine in studio once said to me at 1:30 am the night before a pitch, "Sometimes the smallest adjustments yield the biggest results"
